MALABRESSES PROTEST 3DAYS POWER OUTSTAGE IN HOSTELS

    *Management Intervene Immediately!
Light is one of the basic amenities of life, that human need for survival, and most especially the students in a higher institution.
Light is been admired and love by many because of its wide variety of usage, especially in an academic environment like the prestigious university of Calabar, ranging from using it for ironing of clothing for classes ad other functions, charging of phones and systems, cooling , freezing and preservation of foods and many other functions.
All these were news and stories for the female students residing in the female hostels of the institution (Hall 8 and 9), as they witness a total black out for three full days.
As the elasticity of their patience was drawn to the limit, and they could no longer hold, they took to the street of the institution, protesting, what they described as punishment pounded on them by the school management.
Some of them who explain the challenges they go throw in charging their phones and laptops for the past three days and many other difficulties the blackout has put them through.
The protest as gathered was led by the Female Leadership Forum (FLF) President, Comr. Gloria Edet, alongside the SUG vice President ,Comr. Inemesit Akpan, both of them who resides in the hostels, led the delegations of student s to the administrative building of the institution to meet with the vice chancellor to the institution, to lay their complaint.
Unfortunately for them, on reaching the vice chancellors office, they met his absence, as the Vc is said to have been out of the country for a crucial meeting, but fortunately for them, the Deputy vice chancellor Administration, Prof. Zana Akpagu, who addressed the angry crowd, consoled them for the pains they are encountering over the past days, and promised to fixed up the light for them with the next six hours.
This very immediate action of the school management into the mater after the protest is a call for major concern, as the same management exhibited some lacadasal attitude during the first two days of the blackout that they was no protest.
The question now is, IS IT ONLY PROTEST THAT THE MANAGEMENT LISTEN TO?
WHY DONT THEY ACT ON NEGOTIATION?
These and many more are the questions begging for answers by the university management.
A malabite who heard this urgent intervention of the school management on the issue quickly pointed out that if the SUG President has used this approach on the lingering school charges issues, now the issue will have been addressed.
In his words, he said ‘how I wish Ajang can learn from the female forum and lead a protest on this school fee issue, because the way things are going, it’s like the school management is joking with us and the entire students.
The malabite who spoke in anonymity continued, now that the SUG vice President has opened the way, let Ajang better learn from that, and do the right thing so that this school fee increment can be settled.
As at the time of filling this report, the SUG President, Ajang Emmanuel was at Illorin for a leadership summit.
