The University of Calabar will on Tuesday 30th September conduct an online voting exercise for the Student Union Government elections for the first time in the school history.
This was disclosed by the university’s dean of students, Prof. Eyong Ubana Eyong in a town hall meeting on Tuesday afternoon. Following the post-election unrest that characterised the August 6th 2014, the school management through the CUECO electoral body had earlier announced some weeks ago that the elections in UNICAL will be conducted online.
Prof. Eyong also said every bonafide student of the institution is eligible to vote provided he or she has paid school fees and willing to exercise franchise. Furthermore,Prof.Eyong that students have until Friday 26th to re-validate their information on the site. ”We have liaised with the data base and the students data have been”.
Although one Edidiong (a medical student) is skeptical over the reliability of online voting,Gloria of the English and literary studies dept is said online voting will sanitize the system to a large extent. But majority are of the view that online voting will extinct some rites associted with SUG elections in UNICAL.
